How to keep poker fun
- Set a budget before you play, and treat it as the cost of entertainment — money you're fully prepared to lose.
- Set time limits. Long sessions lead to tired, tilted decisions.
- Never chase losses. Trying to "win it back" is how small losses become big ones.
- Don't play with money you need for rent, bills, food or anyone who depends on you.
- Don't play to escape stress, loneliness or other problems — and never under the influence.
- Use the tools. Reputable poker sites offer deposit limits, session timers, cool-off periods and self-exclusion. Use them.
Warning signs of problem gambling
- Spending more time or money than you intended, repeatedly.
- Chasing losses or gambling to win back money.
- Lying to others about how much you play.
- Borrowing money or neglecting responsibilities to gamble.
- Feeling anxious, irritable or unable to stop.
If any of these sound familiar, please reach out to one of the free, confidential services above.
Age & legality
Online poker is restricted to adults — 18+ or 21+ depending on your jurisdiction — and is only legal in certain regions. It is your responsibility to know and follow the laws where you live, and to only play where it is legal for you to do so.
